While our most powerful learning opportunities come through our deeper learning programs (Changemaker, Change Leader, New Teacher and the IDEAlabs), we appreciate that learning communities often need powerful, targeted and short injections of ideas and inspiration. Our short course offerings are tried and tested across the world, are constantly evolving and are powerful contributors to helping you achieve the professional development goals for your team.
BUILDING BETTER SCHOOLS - Design thinking for educators
We exist to unleash teacher led innovation in schools and the key to the rapid growth of the EC movement has been our team’s ability to effectively merge the concepts of entrepreneurship and design thinking with the unique demands of education. In this short course our facilitators challenge the audience with disruptive education ideas from around the world, before teaching our powerful innovation techniques. By the end of this workshop the tables will be covered with post-it notes, there will be smiles on every face and participants will leave with both powerful skills and real ideas that will help them to consistently solve the challenges they are facing in their unique education contexts. This workshop is an inspiring and practical injection of learning, that will bring powerful improvements to your school.
MBA IN A DAY - Helping educators lead themselves, others and the school more effectively
In any week, teachers and education leaders are expected to lead teams, manage budgets, strategise, thrill their students and parents and keep their own mojo meters high. The MBA in a Day short course equips educators with a wide range of relevant and practical skills that help them thrive in their roles, rather than merely survive. Participants will engage with a range of skills that they would expect to cover in a regular Masters of Business Administration, but enjoy the way in which the EC team makes these concepts highly relevant for educators. A great course to re-inspire an established leader, or prepare an emerging leader, the MBA in a Day is an intense and fun day, high on take home points.
STEP UP - Communication skills for educators
Educators are always speaking in front of crowds, they just usually happen to be crowds of young people! What is interesting, is that if you ask an educator to stand up at a conference, or in a room of their peers, many of them will break into a cold sweat! In this course, in a safe and supportive environment, our team helps to dramatically improve the communication skills of all participants (no matter how scared they initially are of speaking in public). Educators will learn how to hold clear meetings, pitch their ideas to gain strong support, create and deliver inspired speeches and ground this with strong design and messaging principles. After this workshop, participants will have a new confidence in communicating meaningfully and effectively both verbally and through social media and other communications platforms.
POSITIVE EDUCATION - Embedding learning approaches that help people flourish
We know that young people grow and flourish when they are positively supported in all areas of their education, yet too often system pressures are not working well for students, narrowing the focus onto solely academics, rather than a balanced educational approach that focuses on the whole learner. Following a stock-take of all the current ways that participants are trying to engage students, we then move into case studies of education changemakers institutions around the world who are working with young people in powerful and compelling new ways. Then with the insights and support of the facilitators and their peers, participants begin to ideate new approaches and build practical strategies to trial these in their unique education settings, and are equipped with strategies to mobilise the teachers, parents, students and leaders who can support them in this.
MENTORING - Supporting instructional learning communities in your school
One in two teachers leave the profession in their first five years, many because of a sense of isolation and a lack of support, damaging the effectiveness and consistency of schools. Equipping effective teachers with mentoring skills is important in ensuring brilliant minds remain in the classroom, delivering powerful learning. This workshop gives experienced and effective teachers the change leadership and mentoring skills needed for a supportive and resilient school culture. Participants dive deeply into an analysis of effective mentoring strategies, before being stepped through their own design of a mentoring program to foster staff growth in their unique education context. Experienced teachers will leave this day with both new skills for supportive mentoring conversations and with an action plan for fostering improvements in the effectiveness of new teachers in their schools.
ENGAGING THE DISENGAGED - Building powerful solutions for every learner
Every class has a blend of engaged and focused students and those who are more easily distracted and less likely to respond well to the carefully thought out strategies and efforts of a teacher. This workshop is an injection of ideas and support for teachers who are eager to find ways to engage the latter students and is taught by award winning educators who have led positive changes with even the most challenging students. Following a stock-take of all the current ways that participants are trying to engage students, we then move into case studies of learning institutions around the world who are working with young people in powerful and compelling ways. Then with the insights and support of the facilitators and their peers, participants begin to ideate new approaches and build practical strategies to trial these in their unique education settings, leaving equipped with strategies to mobilise the teachers, parents, students and leaders who can support them in this.
LEADING FUTURE LEARNING - Rapid upskill in project based learning
As educators we all work hard to develop and lead learning that is relevant and prepares our students for the world beyond the walls of our classrooms. The reality is though, that it is becoming increasingly hard for us all to keep up with new trends, new technologies and new approaches to learning. In fact recent studies from AITSL show that one in every five students don’t believe school is helping them become the person they want to be, and on average four in every ten are saying that they are ‘usually bored’ in class. Engaging with cutting edge research and best practice from across the globe, participants explore the power of Project Based Learning to reimagine their existing curriculum. This workshop asks participants to consider the power of student centred curriculum, student ownership and authenticity of assessment for learning, breaking down the myths and legends surrounding Project Based Learning to inspire teachers to reinvigorate existing curriculum and create powerful learning experiences.
‘This workshop gave me so many tools
that I wanted to take back to my team
straight away. I called my Principal at
lunch to tell her how amazing it was and
how she was missing out!’
‘The EC team were so inspiring and knowledgable! I learned a huge amount about how I can support my students better, but to be honest gained so much personally as well!’
